Calera de las Huérfanas

Belen’s Jesuitic Ranch

This is an archeological site in the process of being elevated to its patrimonial value. The remains of different constructions from the times of the Jesuits can be seen in the park. The passage of time has deteriorated them, but the restoration works are in progress.

Since most of the architectonic vestiges barely rise above the surface level, a virtual reconstruction has been made to make it possible for the visitor to visualize what the ranch house looked like back in the XVIII century.

This virtual reconstruction is based both on historic documentation and data gathered through the archeological exploration of the site. Some of the materials found are still under analysis, waiting to take their place in the puzzle that fills in the blanks left out by history. In the meantime, they are displayed in the exhibit hall.

The Orphans’ lime pit is in itself a valuable document that illustrates, and testifies to, the reality of our territory starting from the 18th Century.
