Museo Municipal

Portuguese style building, it was rebuilt in different stages. Today, it shows its neoclassical style façade from the beginning of the 19th century. It is known as “The Secretaries House” and “Admiral Brown´s House” as well. The permanent exhibition has thematic rooms on Native Archeology, The Real de San Carlos Tourist Complex, Music, History of Colonia (including a model that shows the city in 1762), Paleontology, Religion, Fowls, Entomology, and Natual Sciences.

Archivo Histórico Regional

Portuguese house from mid- 18th century. It still keeps its original walls, floors (from 1750 to 1825), beams, lintels, grilles, and a niche. The documentaction room “Hipólito José Da Costa” keeps documents on the history of Colonia and on the Historic Neighborhood restoration. Besides that, there are also police files, cartography, and engravings. The temporary exhibition “The Portuguese Governors´ House, 18th century” shows archeological material from the house that belonged to the Portuguese Governors.

Museo del Período Histórico Español

Know as “Juan del Ágila´s House”, it has Portuguese style. It is a two-story building that keeps some orginal floors, roof tiles, panels, walls, and the stone lintels. This building has been annexed to a neoclassical-style house from mid-19th century that keeps original walls and the central arcade. Today, it is being restored and is used temporarily as a laboratory.

Museo Paleontológico Armando Calcaterra

Inaugurated in 1976 at Armando Calcaterra´s house, it was donated to the City Hall of Colonia. Its collection shows species of Pampas Megafauna found in the Department of Colonia such us Glyptodonts, Megatheria and Lestodonts. It also exhibits Coelenterates, several minerals, and native-made objects.

Museo del Período Histórico Portugués

Portuguese house with a hip-and-valley roof (made of pieces of wood and tiles). Its internal walls and external panels are made of stone and adobe. In 1762, some Spanish-style rooms were added. These rooms have flat roofs. The museum shows popular ceramics, the original stone-made coat of arms that used to be placed on the Door of the Citadel, furniture, cartography, among many other things.

Museo del Azulejo

Portuguese construction; parts of its walls, beams, and floors are original. Restores as a museum in 1987, the house exhibits tiles that have been used in our architecture. These tiles have different origins: France and Spain (Catalonia and Valencia).

Museo Indígena Roberto Banchero

This collection was donated to the City Hall of Colonia by Roberto Banchero. It shows different material found in Colonia such us bolas, mortars, scrapers, arrowheads and ceramic. These objets belonged to different native cultures.

Museo Casa Nacarello

Portuguese – style house, it keeps some original walls and floors. It was restored to show the way people lived in the colonial period by using reproductions of original furniture.

Museo Municipal Profesor Lucas Roselli

Inaugurated on October 2nd, 1984 at the behest of its founder and first director, Professor Lucas Roselli who donated his paleontological and archaeological collections which are core to the institution. The Museum is characterized by pieces of scientific value in terms of fossils and archaeological material, especially the fossilized insect nests, Roselli´s pioneering discovery in 1938.
